Is this the next "Donroe Doctrine" crisis? There is apparently a right-wing separatist group in Alberta demanding Albertan independence from Canada. They are currently collecting signatures to force a referendum on the issue later this year. Alberta is oil-rich and it seems the Trump administration have met with the separatists?!
Not sure how much support this movement really has, but this is nevertheless a paradigm shift in US foreign policy. Or maybe not, since they already tried it once before. Greenland, remember?
