Our man Scott Carney tries to understand "the mad ones", specifically Drukpa Kunley, an antinomian teacher in 16th century Bhutan. Was he the original "guru grifter" or some kind of legit rebel against the religious establishment of his day?
I suppose the answer is that he was a bit of both. Most rebels probably are fools and grifters who never accomplish anything, even though the system they react against may be pass its pull date.
