The enigmatic Yowie

The most psychedelic episode of "Finding Bigfoot" was definitely the one about Yowie. Think "Predator" meets the largest hemp party down under!

This production, the title of which is unclear, was therefore something of an disappointment. I didn´t think Yowie could be so boring! Or is this a specific Queensland sub-population? LOL.

Interestingly, the docu is somewhat more even-handed than usual, with the "token skeptic" being allowed to talk almost as much as the true believers, and it´s obvious from the interviews with the people on the street in Brisbane that most Aussies don´t really believe in Yowie, this supposed Australian equivalent to Bigfoot or Sasquatch. Not even the guys selling Yowie coffee! In the small town of Kilcoy, where the mayor has placed a large sculpture of the creature, nobody seems to take it seriously, either. Hmmm...

Perhaps Australians have enough really real animals to worry about, say taipans, tiger snakes, sea crocodiles and such? Not to mentions all those rabbits!

With a few exceptions, the Yowie researchers interviewed for this show seem frivolous, one of them obviously being a crazy hippie of some sort. Some admit they have no physical evidence of the beast, while another shows the usual "blob-squatch" photos. No Aboriginals are interviewed, despite Yowie being an ancient (?) piece of Native folklore. The natural explanations pondered include ape, monkey (sic) or some kind of mega-marsupial. The skeptic believe many Yowie sightings are really misidentified possums!

There, the whole thing ends, and we are left wondering where the next hemp party is at...
