Annoying atheist Richard Carrier argues against the recent claims by a Google engineer (now fired) that the LaMDA chatbox is sentient. It turns out that the engineer in question, Blake Lemoine, is actually a member of the OTO, a sex magic group often accused of being Satanist! Carrier calls him an "idiot" and a "loony".
Carrier himself believes in trans-humanism and eternal progress through...I don´t know...sentient computers perhaps? So it´s really *two* kooks arguing against each other (LOL), with Carrier taking the sensible position mostly because he wants to engineer a chatbox that´s *actually* sentient...
In another article on his blog, Carrier says: "Almost the entirety of our universe is a lethal radiation-filled vacuum, almost the entirety of its contents are lethal stars and black holes, and almost the entirety of what isn’t stars and black holes is a lifeless wasteland of rocks and dust on which nothing can naturally live. The universe is also billions (not mere thousands) of years old; and billions (not a mere handful) of light-years across".

"Lemoine also says 'he has ‘at various times associated’ with several gnostic Christian groups including the Ordo Templi Orientis,.” OTO har faktiskt en ritual de egendomligt kallar en gnostisk mässa, men gruppen i sig är inte gnostisk, och absolut inte kristen. Hur skulle en grupp som mycket snart kom att ledas av, och i allt väsentligt formas av, en man som kallade sig "The Beast 666" kunna vara kristen.

ReplyDeleteDet stämmer. Carrier skriver ofta intressanta saker på sin blogg, men han är fanatiskt anti-kristen, vilket kanske förklarar varför han pekar ut OTO som "kristna", med argumentet "vaddå, de kallar sig gnostiskt kristna på sin hemsida". Det är m a o lite demagogi från hans sida.
ReplyDeleteSkriver verkligen OTO att de är kristna på sin webbsida? Gnostiker kan jag tänka mig, men knappast "gnostiskt kristna".
