Fishy cladistics

Cladistically fish

This is currently making the usual rounds on the internets. Everything that allegedly "rewrites human evolution" is of considerable interest to both science nerds, creationists and the Atlantis crowd.

The articles certainly suggest that *our species* (Homo sapiens) may be one million years old! Which is more than double the usual scenario (circa 300,000 years). However, my AI and perhaps some science communicators elsewhere seem to argue that the real meaning of the recent finds is that the *lineage* which eventually gave rise to Homo sapiens (300,000 years ago) split from the lineages eventually giving rise to Neanderthals and Denisovans about one million years ago.

I can live with both scenarios, LOL. Note also that the sensationally reconstructed fossil skull isn´t even part of the eventually-sapiens lineage, but is classified as "Homo longi", which apparently means it´s an ancestor of the Denisovans.

I think.
