This video deals with the Dead Sea Scrolls and argues that the Teacher of Righteousness believed himself to be a suffering and betrayed Messiah, perhaps even a Messiah predestined to die at the hands of a wicked priest.
Which kind of brings the entire discussion to a close, wouldn´t you say?
More controversially, Tabor also claims that the "Gabriel stone" proves that the followers of Simon of Peraea believed *him* to be a Messiah who would rise again after three days.
Since the Teacher and Simon were real historical persons, we now have three Messiah characters who expected suffering, betrayal and even death! Note also that this is actually a motif from the Old Testament (Daniel and Wisdom of Solomon in particular).
