Can I be honest? I didn´t even know until now (as in 2025) that governments and other political actors can actually *nominate* candidates for the Nobel peace prize. But if so, the prize is all politics. It´s little different from a US primary election.
Speaking of which...
The decision to give the peace prize to the Venezuelan opposition leader is obviously a political choice and with outmost probability based on very careful diplomatic calculations. They can´t give Trump the coveted award since the Donald is simply too controversial in the hallowed halls of the New World Order, sorry, rules-based international order. But they cannot *not* give him the prize either, since the United States is still a great power. And Trump is, shall we say, somewhat erratic. So you don´t want him too angry.
The solution? Trump is currently in a serious conflict with - surprise - Venezuela. And the globo-liberalism don´t like Maduro either. I mean, he´s a Communist dictator allied with Russia and Iran. And, I suppose, Key-Ubah. Problem solved. The Norwegian Parliament sub-sub-committee gave Trump the Nobel peace prize without giving Trump the peace prize. Win-win.
Of course, the prize is widely believed to have been compromised long ago. Henry Kissinger, anyone? Or that North Vietnamese guy, if you don´t like Reds. And what about Barack Obama, who got the award while the US was fighting two bloody wars (one of which was later stopped by...Trump)?
So it´s hardly news that there´s something rotten in the kingdom of Norway. Still, I wonder if they might have forgotten to take one thing into consideration: Trump´s reaction...
