Last year, Sweden approved a 11 billion kronor arms deal with...somebody. We don´t know who, since the Swedish government has classified the information?!
This single deal makes up 40% of the approved arms exports for 2023. No other country to which Sweden sold weapons last year is secret. The responsible authorities claim that the nation is question is a "long time partner in the Western world".
They are lying, of course. If it really had been such a nation, UK let´s say, it wouldn´t be controversial. So there are really only three possibilities: Ukraine, Turkey or Hungary.
If the export is to Ukraine, it´s presumably classified because of the Russians. Still, it´s difficult to imagine that Russia wouldn´t know about it. I mean, I assume they have spies? That leaves Turkey or Hungary, two pro-Russian Trojan horses in NATO which for two years blocked Sweden´s NATO membership bid. Maybe the 11 billion arms deal is a tribute to Turkey´s strongman Erdogan, to make him more well disposed to the Nordic infidels?
Now, *that* would be controversial. Very controversial indeed. But not just for Sweden. It would (again) raise the question why the United States can´t stop Erdogan´s semi-Islamist regime from doing exactly what they like, even when it´s clearly detrimental to NATO´s security interests...
UPDATE 2024-03-12: Or it´s India. See commentary section below!
United States or Germany would be my guess...but for a shaky relationship, India, not exactly a western country.

Bingo! That´s the news item, essentially as presented in Swedish media, but in a good English translation.
ReplyDeleteIndia could also be it. Just now I saw a news item that Swedish "car manufacturer" SAAB is about to open a new plant in India. SAAB also manufacture, cough cough, highly advanced military technology...
India is sensitive because of its on-off conflicts with Pakistan and China.
That must be it! India.
