Irish Traditionalist Keith Woods is skeptical of recent claims that some engineer managed to create a "sentient computer". Woods believes that there is a qualitative ontological difference between the human mind (think qualia, intentionality and embodiement) and a computational algorithm.
Thus, the claim that AI can be sentient (or "intelligent") is really based on reductionist materialism. It´s also connected to the absurd dreams of trans-humanists. While computers and robots may indeed become even better at computation in the future, sentience or intelligence simply isn´t possible in machines.
To Woods, this is a good thing. Humans are embodied organic beings by nature (and, I presume, in and of Nature), and will remain that way, despite the fevered dreams of trans-humanist cornucopians and believers in a "Singularity"...
I found the video game Soma very fascinating. Vey sad and at times really disturbing. Felt a bit embarased when i finished it and actually cried a bit at the end scenes.
ReplyDeleteA fast and simple way to copy all data in peoples minds have been discovered. Mankind is about to go extinct so the last people in a deep underwater base make sure to copy their minds for future use. Dont work out well at all.
These short movies were made as promotion for the game release.
Perhaps they seem nonsensical if you have havent played the game but som of the clips made me feel very uneasy.

Especiallly the first clip where an AI programmed to preserve human life at all costs have gotten hold of The brain scans and have put the copies of people minds into crude industrial robots.

The very sad ending. At least the last remaining copied human conciousnesess get to heaven. In the form of characters in a simulated paradise world. The supercomputer running the simulation is shot into space aboard a solar powered satelite capable of a few thousand years of upkeep.
Intriguing story. Could perhaps work as a real film!
ReplyDeleteNotera namnet på satelliten. I spelet tar man sig från den ena U-vattenbasen efter den andra. Alla har grekiska namn som alla är mer eller mindre olycksbådande i relation till spelets handling. Lustigt nog heter en av baserna "Omicron".
ReplyDeleteSatelliten verkar ibland kallas "arken", ibland "pathos", vilket tydligen kan översättas med "lidande". Reagerade också på det där med omicron, förstås.
ReplyDeleteTror Arken var själva världen som superdatorn skapade. Arken och datorn var dock beroende av satelitens solenergi för att funka i 10000 år om allt fungerade som tänkt.

U-vattenbasens AI följde sin instruktion om att bevara och säkra förekomsten av liv. När människorna började dö ut så använde den registret med kopierade medvetanden och testade olika improviserade "kroppar".
AI:verkade inte bry sig om arken då det i definitionen av liv ingick någon form av kropp.
Människorna tilläts pyssla med arken bäst man ville ända tills man lanserade teorin om att ifall man begick självmord direkt efter att ens medvetande kopierats till arken så besvarades ens "sanna" jag i arken.
Rätt skrämmande scenario, verkar nästan bättre att bara dö i den där kollisionen med kometen!
