An observation
Joe Biden is a better incarnation of the Mad Man Doctrine than Donald Trump. Who knew?
Trump never was a good exampel of The mad man doctrine and Probably never tried to be either. The only people who tought him to be dangerously mad were all the hysteric woke Karens, the retard middle class leftists and some minor parts of the black population. Mad man doctrine is all about making forreign military enemies to scared to attack a nation led by an irrational and unpredictable leader. Causing the retard leftists in your own country to go batshit crazy from their own phobia and projections doesnt count. Im not sure Biden really cuts it either as that kind of mad man. While dementia sure is a kind of madness, being severly helpless is not a trait that can be combined with the mad man doctrine. I would say Saddam Hussein was an exellent and for a long time successfull incarnation of The mad man doctrine.
Maybe Gaddafi, too? Trump sounded like a madman when he threatened North Korea, but it´s possible that the North Koreans didn´t see it that way - after all, he was merely mimicking *their* rhetoric! Perhaps the North Koreans are another example of succesful madman doctrine, however?
Never percieved Gaddadi as that kind of mad man. His threats against The West usually came when he had reason to fear for his life. Like when NATO in The 80:es almost got him in an air-attack in Libya. But one of his children was killed in The attack. Most people lash out when they are given reasons to fear for the Lives of Themself and their loved ones. Gaddafi was Probably the best middle East muslim leder in modern time. Libya had a high level of welfare and he was in a kind of sneaky way very secular. Like when sufis dress their religious practice in islamic language to practice a totaly diffrent religion, Gaddafi dressed his secular rule of Libya in islamic language and customs so he wouldnt lose the support of The islamists in The world. A support he definitley needed against NATO. He quite skillfully manouvered both NATO and various islamist movements for the benefit of his country.
I agree that Gaddafi was really a kind of Pan-Arab nationalist and socialist, and that he used Islam as window-dressing. A kind of taqiyya in reverse, almost. I also agree that he can´t have been literally mad, otherwise he wouldn´t have been able to stay in power for so long. Never really found a good book on Libya, here is an an old attempt of mine to understand Gaddafi´s regime:
