Capitalism works

Some random rich dudes

The Ayn Rand Institute (which even got COVID relief money) must be really happy now! It seems capitalism works, even in the middle of a pandemic...

10 individuals increased their net worth by 500 billion dollars in 2021

Marburg Mindset

Has the establishment admitted defeat, or is a new false flag being prepared? This is one of the scariest things I read in a while, yet it almost exactly dovetails with something I posted only yesterday ("Kamala can still win"). Have no idea who the author is, btw.

Something´s up

Ontological cheating

Isn´t it strange that most atheists-materialists believe that the universe is inevitably going *their* way, while claiming to believe in blind evolution and attack teleology as unscientific? And yet, it seems that the blind process of chance and determinism invariably ends up with the English Victorian gentleman with a slight penchant for reform causes...at least if you are, let´s say, an English Victorian gentleman with a slight penchant for reform causes. Funny how *blind* evolution never ends with, say, a militaristic Preussian junker, or a French Bonapartist named Bonaparte. Or a hideous Thugee in darkest British Raj.

Of course, if you are a libertarian, blind cosmic evolution somehow manages to always end with libertarians, never with Stalinists or Latin Rite Catholics. Or even Kamala Harris. If you are a left-liberal disaster area with California Crazy values, blind evolution will inevitably (at least after 15 billion years or so) take you to the sunny shores of Crazy California, that notorious left-liberal disaster area. Even more weirdly, all the scenarios above always converge on humanity inventing some ingenious machine that can take us to the stars and eventually "become like gods" (hiss).

But that´s not teleology either. Naaah. Cuz that would be UNSCIENTIFIC!!!

Presumably, it´s not anthropocentrism either, then.

One of the few exceptions to the rule seems to be Richard Dawkins. He actually believes that evolution can turn out in a way we *don´t* like. Which seems pretty reasonable, if the process is supposed to be a blind-folded one. (Or even a teleological one - what the heck makes us think *we* are the purpose of the universe?) Hence his quip: "Let´s try to teach some altruism, since we are born selfish". Dawkins has also said: "I´m not particularly interested in humans. That´s just one species, and a highly aberrant one, at that". Dawkins have drawn the conclusion nobody else dares to draw. Everybody else is engaged in a kind of ontological cheating. I used to think that Dawkins´ perspective was terrible, dark and depressive. Reading "The Blind Watchmaker" almost turned me Christian! Or at least Platonist. Today, I suspect he is on to something. And no, I´m not an atheist-materialist. But the plane of existence we are stuck on in this round, sure as hell seems godless...

An admission

I actually like being locked down. I mean, what is there not to like about it?

I get monthly unemployment benefits, if I get a job I can work from home (hence not having to go anywhere), I can surf all day long and get radicalized, I don´t have to socialize with anyone face to face, as long as the diners are "essential" and don´t ask for vaccin passports I can get a really good lunch there, I can go on long walks in near-empty areas, I can sleep whenever I feel like it, I can laugh at all the ADHD-type extroverts who can´t live without clubbing and hence get COVID (all 77 versions), and laugh even more at the "revolutionary left" which actually supports the lockdowns. Keep da benefits flowin´, revolucionario! Aint gonna vote for you anyway.

So yes, I suppose I suffer from FONO.

Of course, there is always a risk that they will impose vaccine passports everywhere.

If so, we riot.

Then, back to bed!

Kamala can still win, here´s how!

A little scenario...

YOU ARE HERE

1. Joe Biden dies.

2. Kamala Harris appoints Hillary Clinton Secretary of State.

3. Clinton threatens Russia with war over Ukraine. She is bluffing. The Russians call her bluff by invading Ukraine. The US responds by preparing to attack...Syria and Iran.

4. "The Russian threat" and/or flurona is used as an argument to extend mail-in voting during the mid-term elections of 2022.

5. Thanks to the above, the Democrats win the mid-terms, despite having all-time low popularity figures.

6. An adventurist right-wing insurrection begins against Dem election fraud. It´s quickly suppressed by the military.

7. The insurrection will be used to impose a permanent state of emergency until 2024, and to stop Donald Trump from running again. Kamala Harris is elected POTUS after wide-spread and very obvious election fraud.

8. The war against Syria and Iran isn´t going very well...

FLURONA

Cursed be the Romans

I believe it was Carl Sagan who in his famous TV series "Cosmos" opined that "if the Ionians had been victorious, we would be on our way to the stars". And Richard Carrier believes that if the Roman Empire hadn´t collapsed (and/or hadn´t turned Christian), we would have been 1,000 years more advanced, scientifically and technologically...

OK, let me guess.

The Western Idea of Progress is a...religion?

If the Romans had a scientific revolution around the year 600, their industrial revolution would presumably had started around 800. Around 1100, the Roman World Empire would have destroyed the climate by burning too much fossil fuel. Around 1400, all relevant natural resources would have been depleted. And in the year 2022, we (all 1 million of us, world-wide) would have lived in fucking Stone Age fox holes, cursing the evil Romans. And worshipped a pagan nun named Gretis Tunbergis who according to legend tried to warn the Roman emperor Donaldus Trumpius about albedo effects and shit.

And how do we know this? Well, because that´s exactly what happened after our scientific and industrial revolutions...

The claim that 500 extra years or so would make a difference is simply bullshit.

But sure, keep worshipping the secular gods of fusion, cold fusion, starships going through wormholes, AI, metaverses, flying cars, or whatever.

Madagascar mystery

This one is hard to believe...

A species of ant in Madagascar apparently lives in a kind of symbiosis with a snake, more specifically a snake that eats ant-eating snakes! This weird relationship was then misinterpreted by the natives and turned into a mythological story about "snake-eating ants".

The world, agent Cooper, is a strange and wonderful place.

Madagascar´s snake-eating ants: Forgotten fable or fascinating fact?

Mining´s unlikely heroines

Are Greta Thunberg and AOC actually *assets* of the mining industry? The slightly ironic article below is from 2019, but of course I told you so already at the time. Wanna green transition, kiddo? That requires enormous amounts of copper. Which can only be mined with the help of fossil fuels. And, I suppose, destroying national parks and launching the odd resource war...
