Redditor

Here´s a Redditor guy who thinks miracles are impossible, because David Hume said so. Is this the same Hume who *also* said that we can´t be sure about anything, not even the existence of laws of nature? Or am I missing something here?

  1. There is something strange about the Christian video the atheist is commenting, since the Christian content-creator actually confuses the virgin birth with the immaculate conception?! Is he a "baby" Christian?

  2. The real question isn´t if "miracles" (as apparently defined by both Hume and his critics) are possible, but rather if some events are caused by supernatural beings and/or forces. That´s an empirical question which cannot be decided "by definition".

  3. The Biblical worldview has nothing to do with 18th century crypto-deist Christianity, in which the existence of mechanical laws of nature form the backdrop to which events should be considered "miraculous". In the Bible, "miracles" happen *all the time* since the Biblical authors and redactors had a radically supranaturalist worldview. Yes, they (in effect) denied the existence of laws of nature. So - to repeat myself - the question is whether we empirically actually see such a world or not? "Definitions" has nothing to do with it, bruh.
