På svenska kallas det i alla fall långfredag. På engelska kallas alltså dagen då Jesus torterade ihjäl "Good Friday". Ganska så smaklöst, för att uttrycka det lite försiktigt.
Because in olde English "Good" means Holy or divinely ordained. A simple search provides much these days. I did not know why off the top of my head either. Good question!
