It seems to be science reporting. The Turkish scientist Uner Tan (who claimed that this family was an evolutionary throwback) was criticized by several prominent Western scientists, including Nicholas Humphrey. This didn´t stop Western news outlets to treat the "theory" of evolutionary throwback as somehow legitimate, when in reality we are (of course) dealing with inbreeding, parental neglect and mental retardation...
