This is an over three hour long debunking of "Ancient Aliens", a never-ending TV show on some American trash channel peddling the equally never-ending Ancient Astronaut Theory of Erich von Däniken et. al.
I haven´t watched the entire documentary (yet), but what I have seen so far seems pretty solid. More specifically, the sections on "UFOs" in medieval art, the Crystal Skulls, the Mahabharata, the Annunaki and the visions of Ezekiel. The two latter sections features my favorite Bible scholar Michael Heiser. I must say that the amount of sheer and brazen lying from the Dänikenites surprised even me. Wow! We´re talking about scam artists here.
The documentary has been uploaded by a Christian, but I´m not sure if it´s the actual narrator or somebody else. It does contain crypto-Biblical apologetics in the Annunaki section.
I might return to this in the future, but for the time being, you are free to explore this smorgasbord for yourselves. An ironic fact which struck me when watching it, is that Ancient Astronaut theorists have to assume that pre-modern man (or is it pre-modern colored man?) was mighty stupid, since they constantly mistook space age technology for "gods" and in general couldn´t do anything without the aid of smart aliens from Wherever.
Here´s another "alternative" proposition: no, you jerks, it was Atlantis the Lost Civilization all along... and Atlantis was *human*!
"it was Atlantis the Lost Civilization all along... and Atlantis was *human*!"
ReplyDeleteDo you really believe in Atlantis or is this some kind of joke...
Depends on what you mean by "Atlantis". I believe it´s possible that one or several "lost civilizations" existed before the end of the last Ice Age, and that they were destroyed by a world-wide flood. This would explain a thing or two! However, they didn´t have space age technology, of course. Perhaps they were at Bronze Age level, perhaps they were very advanced Stone Age civilizations, a kind of megalith-builders writ large. Plato´s legend of Atlantis could be a garbled tradition about this time.
DeleteI don´t think there is much in the way of “positive” evidence for Atlantis. Rather, there are some tantalizing clues and mysteries. Why did Plato place Atlantis at a time and place when and where such a culture could have existed and been destroyed by a natural cataclysm? Why are there flood legends all over the world? In these legends, civilization is said to have been relatively advanced before the flood.
ReplyDeleteThen there is Göbekli Tepe, which is substantially larger than the part excavated so far. If this temple complex (or burial ground?) is as large as suspected (and as old), I think we have to revise the history of civilization regardless of whether Atlantis is real or not. Either Mesolithic hunters-gatherers were capable of previously unknown feats, or the structure was built by a previously unknown ancient civilization, or some of the known ancient civilizations is older than previously suspected.
Finally, there are also Vedic legends about a sunken continent in the East. Interestingly, there *was* a large landmass east of India, known as Sundaland, until the end of the last Ice Age. How did the Vedic sages know this? Just a lucky guess? Or was it “Lemuria”…?

This posting is my most popular so far. So readers of this blog don´t believe in Däniken but do believe in Hancock? :D
ReplyDeleteThey don´t believe in anything. They want to watch porn! Probably have been tricked into thinking this is porno site.
