It´s almost fascinating how the leftoid liberal quasi-literati are in complete denial about the demographic crisis. With an incredulous smile, they say stuff like "Eh, how can it be a crisis that nobody wants to have babies anymore. Are you some kind of old fashioned Xian fundie?". These are the *smart* people, remember? The Brights.
And if they do acknowledge the crisis, they have one pet solution: mass immigration. Which doesn´t solve the problem in the long run, since the demographic crisis is global. Even apart from all other problems it potentially creates. Oh, and these are the same people who claim that the Great Replacement is a neo-Nazi conspiracy theory...
I somehow managed to miss this Britt Hartley video. It´s called "The ugly side of atheism / 5 things I hate about atheists (as an atheist)". The most sensational move is when Hartley uses secular psychology and evolutionary theory *to undercut the claims of atheists to rationality*. How can atheism be "rational" if our senses are fundamentally unreliable? Exaaactly...but this is of course a popular *Christian* argument against atheism! Here used by a fellow atheist to cut the perfectly "rational" (male) on-line atheists down to size.
I suppose we could call "Britt Hartley´s dangerous idea"...
The main reason, I think, why Hartley is so controversial in (male) atheist on-line spaces is that she "wants to both have the cake and eat it". In a very real sense, she wants spirituality without Spirit and religion without God. Differently put, she wants to keep the social and psychological dimensions of religion without the metaphysics. I think her (male) atheist detractors (and presumably her religious detractors, too) see this as a kind of LARP. A quasi-religious LARP, to be exact.
Could it work on a mass scale? Maybe. After all, civic religion is a thing. Still, since the LARP is supposedly rooted in our most basic psychological make-up, sooner or later the participants might feel drawn to actual religion, seeing it as "the real thing" or "the missing ingredient". Why not assume that a psyche molded by evolution to "feel" or even "see" Spirit *actually feels or sees Spirit*? The metaphysics are real. Especially if the LARP is very self-consciously modelled on explicitly religious communities (say Christian ones). I think Hartley´s (male) opponents see her as in some objective sense too "spiritual" or religious.
As usual, there is also an discussion on how atheism is male-coded (it´s cold, hard, rational yada yada) whereas religion and spirituality are female-coded. Hartley never says it out loud, but I think she suspects that her male critics see her as "the weak and confused woman" who can´t let go of her emotional support blanket.
Hartley has controversial takes on a few other topics, too. Would secularism really turn the United States into "Norway"? (I assume she means Sweden!) Do atheists really have higher IQ than religious people?
The Hindu content-creator who calls himself "Path of Dharma" continues to polemicize against Christians and Christianity. This video isn´t as good as the one I linked to earlier, though. Too "apologetic" and evangelistic. Note the Hara Krishna tendency. Still, here it is.
What if there are no solutions to the climate crisis, the demographic crisis, the migrant crisis, the AI crisis (the real one), the autism crisis, the IQ crisis, the energy crisis, the ecological crisis...did I forget something? Well, American Coke still contains corn syrup rather than sugar. Tastes like shit, apparently. Or corn.
This guy again. Peter Levenda is the rumored author of "Simon´s Necronomicon". Here, he discusses the recent push (?) for UFO disclosure. Since Levenda is an occultist, he unsurprisingly draws the conclusion that the government and the military don´t know shit. The UFO problem is about *consciousness*, not technology. Hint John Keel hint hint Jacques Vallée. How likely is it that the Man knows about the fairy (to use my favorite term for the ufonauts)? The phenomenon might turn up in *your* backyard just now, rather than land on the White House lawn or what have you.
Levenda´s speculations may even be true. But there is another possibility: what if the intelligence community *know about the problem of consciousness* and has sent Levenda to cover it up? I mean, this guy is supposedly on a first name basis with CIA operatives and what have you. Or so he says in another interview...
The Fermi paradox just got worse. Why haven´t we seen *the unmanned space probes* of the purported extraterrestrial civilizations? But maybe we simply haven´t been looking hard enough. Sabine never makes an explicit tie-in to Avi Loeb´s quixotic quest for such probes in our planetary backyard, but if the paper is correct, maybe the rest of us should go looking, too!
