Teach the controversy

The slogan "unite behind the science" is frequently being used to shut down political dissent and questioning. Indeed, you can be both censored and persecuted for questioning "science". And very often, the leftists and the liberals are behind this "science" crusade. Being "unscientific" has become the equivalent of being a witch, or perhaps a KGB agent.

This scientism is a threat to political democracy, not just in its "static" form, but also in its more "dynamic" form, in which democracy is used to politicize everything and change it - to reform society, in short. There was a time when progressives would see things in precisely this way, rejecting all "scientific" claims that class society, capitalist economy, gender inequality or racial segregation were "natural" and hence outside the proper jurisdiction of the political sphere. And yet, here we are, with authoritarian social engineers and condescending saviors telling us what to do in the name of "science", and insisting on the top of their voices that nothing - not a proper democratic debate, and absolutely not fiery political protests - can trump their questionable decisions cuz scientific. In fact, I wouldn´t even call them social engineers, since those at least tried to change society (sometimes even for the better). The present-day "PMC" just wants to uphold the status quo as it looked like circa 2010 (when most workers had been thrown under the bus long ago).

By the above "logic", liberals and leftists should have been racist during the 19th and early 20th centuries, uniting behind a science which said that Whites were a superior race, while Negroes were, of course, inferior. Perhaps they should still be racist, since Whites consistently outperform Blacks on IQ tests. Also, science showed that of course women were more stupid, emotional and weak than men. Yet, no true progressive at the time was thinking like this. Why not? Muh science, after all! Clearly, the reasons weren´t "scientific" but political, social, ideological. As for Blacks, they fought racism and slavery anyway, regardless of debates between Whites about the desirability of such a struggle.

"But X has been scientifically proven" isn´t an argument against a democratic debate and political process, *not even if the claim is true*. A whole number of issues are still on the table and must be dealt with politically, by duly elected officials, a free press, and so on. A course that´s scientifically correct could hurt the economy, disproportionately hit the workers or oppressed minorities, make it harder to defend the nation against foreign enemies, and so on. Science may be consequence-neutral, but politics cannot be, progressive politics in particular. "Group X has lower IQ than Group Y" could be an argument for apartheid, but it could also be an argument for creating more employment opportunities for Group X (in this case, jobs that don´t require high IQ), thereby integrating them into society, strengthening the social cohesion of the nation.

Ironically, the COVID pandemic is an excellent example. *According to established science, pandemics are best fought by herd immunity*. Had the pandemic been allowed to take its course in the spring of 2020, the whole thing would have been over by summer. Yet, it´s probably true that this is *politically* inexpedient for a whole number of reasons. That´s why leftists and liberals oppose it in favor of hard lockdowns. The claims that this is somehow more "scientific" than herd immunity is just bullshit rhetoric to lock down any political debate about the course taken. And since there is seldom a scientific consensus on any issue, the people who talk warmly about "science" are really saying that a *very specific group of scientists should be handed political veto powers over our elected officials or the popular will*. But on what grounds have this *particular* group of scientists been selected? Obviously on the grounds that they support...you guessed it...the *politics* of the faction making the proposal...

So it always boils down to good ol´ politization in the end.

That purported "progressives" suddenly want everyone to unite behind a classless and perfectly objective Science, or else be stripped of their democratic rights, simply shows what very material class interests they are defending. It is the interests of...their own class.

  1. Dear Commander,

First off: If ever there was a Siren to lure unsuspecting sailors to their watery death, it would be the young woman in your headliner!

Second: Sounds like you sat on a tack or something this morning, to post such a vehement statement. What happened?

Certainly neither science, nor religion for that matter, should be forced upon an individual, or society as a whole, without a democratic consensus. I have read the statements on the Folkhalsomyndigheten page, recommendations for vaccination
and other preventive measures. Are certificates required for travel?

I received three booster shots after the two initial Covid vaccines, with no reactions at all. Maybe a sore arm! So far I have not had the virus. We now have relaxed mask mandates in Illinois, even in hospitals it is now *optional*.

I think the initial restrictions were a combination of real fear of the virus spreading and a lack of understanding how to handle the pandemic. Sweden has some 20,600 deaths while the USA has
1.07 million. We did not reach herd immunity and as the virus mutates that becomes less approachable.

But yes, you're correct. There is no *perfectly objective* science,
and yes individuals should have freedom to choose to be vaxxed or not. The question of whether the rights of an individual should or can be superceded by the general good of society as a whole is a good one that has not been resolved. In a democracy, we accept when our views lose, politically. We rise up and try again; in our elections, every four years, basically.

So please continue. This is an interesting topic.

Next up: Are you aware of the cultural revolution brewing in Iran?
It is all over Tik Tok (to which I am not subscribed or whatever)
and here in the US, the former vice president just stated freedom of religion does not mean freedom *from* religion! Here we go again!
We must all subscribe to evangelical christianity or else!

  2. It just struck me that the re-posting of this entry may be subliminal, since I might currently suffer from the seasonal flu...or something worse! Weird that I didn´t see that earlier.

As for COVID, I´m a lockdown-skeptic and mandate-skeptic, but I´m evolving into a COVID-vaccine-skeptic due to various disturbing new information. I agree that it´s not wrong *in principle* to impose quarantines (or even vaccines) on a society - provided the decision is taken by competent public authorities. But if it destroys the economy, political confidence, or is an experimental drug (or all three!)...very *concrete* reasons argue against it.

Sure hope the Iranian regime will fall, but every time there were protests in the past, it muddled through - probably because the silent majority still support the Shia Muslim theocracy.

As for Pence, John Michael Greer once half-jokingly referred to him as "Trump´s anti-impeachment policy", since liberals would probably find Pence even worse! It didn´t quite turn out that way, of course, but it seems Pence decided to ride the recent Christian Nationalist wave! With only a few days to Halloween, no less.

    1. If anyone looks like a blank faced robot, it's Pence! Where's the joy in realizing one is liberated through the blood of the Lamb?

It's scary stuff, and these folks aren't kidding. Our Congressional elections are right around the corner. We shall see who comes out to actually vote. As in Iran, the younger
generations could reshape the political landscape. Much ideation surrounds how to get the Millennials and Gen Zers to vote.

Regarding symptoms, I worked alongside a sister of St. Joseph (nun) named Cecilia, who was a chemistry teacher of all things. A good gal all around actually. Her recommendation for recovery was simple: a hot toddy!
      3/4 cup simmered water
      1 1/2 oz whiskey
      2-3 teaspoons honey
      2-3 teaspoons lemon juice

pour simmered water into a mug, add whiskey, honey, lemon juice and stir. Get under a blanket and get some rest!
      :-}

    2. Alcohol in general is no good when ill. But in such a small amount it might be diffrent. Research indicates very small amounts of alcohol have much of an opposite effect to "normal" amounts.
For exampel people drive better in car simulators with minmal amounts of alcohol in the bloodstream.
And honey gave antiviral effects. But to keep all of that effect it shouldnt be heated much above body temoerature.

    4. If possible buy a piece of fresh beewax directly from a local honeymaker and squeese out the honey before use.
Often honey reaches to high temperatures when centrifuged out of the wax.

    6. But if i remember correctly, in the original ancient recipe it was thinly sliced garlic, placed under a piece of beewax for a very long time. And then you ate a piece of the waxcake evryday untill fully recovered.
I wish pfizer spent all their billions on research like this instead of needlecraft.
"From ancient Egypt, brought to ypu by Pfiser".
Was actually at Texas Arcanes blog i first heard about ancient Egyptian antivirals and antibiotics.
To him that was another proof the ancient egytians were neanderthals because "saps" are way to stupid to figure out such stuff.
