This could be controversial...
"Gnowly" is a Tantric YouTube channel brought to you by person or persons unknown marooned somewhere on Negombo Beach in Sri Lanka. The content-creator is a Shakta, but seems to have connections to other Hindu traditions, as well. In another video, he reveals that his guru was a somewhat fundamentalist Krishnaite! (Edit: It was actually Prabhupada of the ISKCON.)
In the clips above, Mr Gnowly discusses "the most terryifing book in the world", which I unfortunately haven´t read. Or perhaps fortunately. It´s titled "The Gervais Principle" and the author´s name is Venkatesh G Rao. It seems to be a work arguing that human society is controlled by sociopaths manipulating the clueless masses. Since Rao is apparently an atheist, Gnowly doesn´t think he offers any solutions to the problem, although his diagnosis is roughly correct.
In the second clip, the presenter argues that conspiracy theories are invented by sociopaths to create the illusion that they are in control, and that the clueless accept them at face value since they too want to believe that *somebody* is in charge. Even an evil cabal is psychologically "better" than the stark truth: nobody controls anything. Or rather, no human, since ultimately the Goddess is in control. Interestingly, Gnowly portrays her as extremely capricious!
In other words, the conspiracy theories are the conspiracy. Examples of such theories Gnowly doesn´t believe in: anti-vaxx, the idea that climate change is a hoax and QAnon.
Hmmm...
How do we know this old hippie and his friends on the beach aren´t in on the whole thing? :D
