Viva Las Vegas

Alt Right gadfly Vox Day is currently enbroiled in some drama with Erika "Gutsick Gibbon", a science influencer on YouTube who questioned his critique of evolutionary theory.

Says Vox: "It’s probably best that Ericka runs away now, considering what happened to the last woman who tried to debate me. For those of you who weren’t around then, she literally abandoned the debate after three rounds and ran off to Las Vegas to start a new career as a prostitute at a legal brothel. I’m neither kidding nor exaggerating for effect. You can look it up. You can probably still buy her services, for that matter."

Oookay. The Internet is forever, as they say...

Midwits and maintainers

Overheard on a very controversial blog (I disavow...disavow...disavow).

>>>The fundamental challenge is that neither midwits nor maintainers are capable of seeing problems coming from down the road. Their perspective is always a limited one of the last 15-20 years. If something hasn’t caused a problem yet, that means it never will.

>>>The maintainers ignore everything but their day-to-day responsibilities and the midwits devote themselves to aggressively attacking every problem solver or genius who is concerned about the problems the midwits can’t yet perceive.

Infinite probabilities

Biogeographic intuition versus Dark Lord mathematix - who would win?

Controversial far right blogger Vox Day recently published a book defending his evolution-skeptical speculations (jokingly known as MITTENS). I haven´t read the book, "Probability Zero", nor its sequel, "The Frozen Gene". However, I have previously linked to some of Vox´ blog posts on MITTENS. The short story is that Vox Day argues that evolution is mathematically impossible ("one in one Darwillion") since it would take too long time for the necessary mutations to become fixed.

Below is a criticism of "Probability Zero" written by a biogeographer who I assume is also a Neo-Darwinist, Dennis McCarthy. The first article is more strictly a response to Vox Day, while the second also deals with some more standard creationist arguments, which McCarthy responds to with remarkable patience.

Winter is coming

From a pro-Russian blog. This could be true. Or it could be Russian propaganda. Who knows? The most interesting piece is "The Last Bluff" (about the Tomahawks). For reference only.

Materialism is for midwits

Controversial Alt Right blogger Vox Day on atheism and autism. The All-Knowing ChatGPT actually denies the claims in this blog post, suggesting rather that there is a weak *negative* correlation between high IQ (or Mensa membership) and religiosity. That being said, I kind of wonder if a certain kind of materialist reductionism is a bit "autistic"...

Qatari conspiracy

Some interesting facts (or perhaps factoids) in these ones. I suppose this could be empirically confirmed if Israel suddenly stops its recent attacks on Hamas in Gaza, or Qatar withdraws its investments if Israel continues...

No joke

There are many rumors like this on the internet just now. Obviously. This one can at least be empirically tested. Note the peculiar conspiracy theory that Donald Trump has a doppelgänger!

It´s just a joke

The apotheosis of the NPC

- Hey, my sweet lord,
I almost look like a peacock!

First, a link to the most notorious blog on the darkest webs. Then, some comments from ChatGPT. I actually wondered about this some weeks ago. Is "Redditor" a generic insult or a meme of some kind? And the answer is: yeah, it is now, dawg!

The Swamp of Retarded Evil

Is the term "Redditor" sometimes used as an insult or meme? (And hence not just a factual descriptor of somebody using Reddit or editing Reddit threads)

Yes, the term “Redditor” is often used both as a neutral descriptor and as a pejorative or meme, depending on context.

1. Neutral Usage:

  • Literal: “Redditor” just means someone who uses Reddit.

  • Common in Reddit communities themselves.

  • Often self-applied without negative connotation.

2. Pejorative / Meme Usage:

  • Online stereotypes have formed around “Redditor” as a type, especially outside Reddit or in certain ironic internet subcultures (like 4chan, Twitter/X, or certain YouTube channels).

  • It may imply:

    • Cringe behavior (e.g., overexplaining, “well actually”-ing, or shallow intellectualism).

    • Performative morality or virtue-signaling.

    • Blind trust in science or rationalism without depth (“I f***ing love science” meme).

    • Obnoxious formatting or long-winded storytelling (“So this happened…” or “TIFU” posts).

    • “Midwit” energy – trying to sound deep or smart but missing nuance.

Examples of mocking tone:

  • “Classic Redditor take.”

  • “You sound like a Redditor.”

  • “That’s some real Redditor behavior.”

These phrases are typically dismissive and imply that the speaker thinks the person is smug, socially awkward, or naive.

Conclusion:

Yes, “Redditor” can absolutely be used as an insult, especially in meme culture or inter-platform banter. It’s often shorthand for a specific kind of online personality: well-meaning but cringe, overly rational, and socially unaware. Whether it’s derogatory or not depends entirely on tone and context.

What is TIFU?

TIFU stands for “Today I F*ed Up”**, and it’s both:

  1. A phrase used to describe a personal mistake, often told as a funny or embarrassing story.

  2. A popular subreddit (r/tifu) where people post these stories.

Typical Features of a TIFU Post:

  • Begins with something like:

“TIFU by accidentally texting my boss instead of my girlfriend.”

  • Usually includes humor, embarrassment, or cringe.

  • Often written in a long-winded, self-deprecating style.

  • Sometimes exaggerated or fictionalized.

Example Structure:

TIFU by trying to surprise my girlfriend with breakfast in bed…
I spilled coffee all over her laptop, set off the smoke alarm, and her dog bit me in the process. She’s now staying at her mom’s.

Cultural Role:

  • TIFU posts are widely shared outside Reddit for their entertainment value.

  • The format has become a meme template and is often parodied.

  • Used sarcastically to dramatize even minor mistakes.

So, when someone says “TIFU,” they usually mean “I made a big (and possibly funny) mistake,” especially in the style or spirit of Reddit storytelling.

Think different

Obsolete

An interesting story, to be sure. I´m old enough to remember when a Mac was a super-expensive niche product. Then, the other guys (IBM? Microsoft?) kind-of-stole their idea...and here we are.

I always found the Mac more appealing than the old kind of PC, so Jobs was obviously on to something there, LOL. Btw, I read Wiki´s article on Jobs, ahem, I had no idea that he was a hippie and spiritual seeker! Psychedelics were part of the picture, too.

Or just the Golden Triangle as per usual? No idea what to make of this. Probably just another confused conspiracy theory. I think its promotion is connected to the recent spike in gold prices and the latest Bitcoin bubble.

Åtminstone enligt uppgifter i media.

Nä, just det.

Glowing in the dark

I think it was Mattias Gardell who said that the three most common accusations hurled by neo-Nazis in the US against each other are "you are gay", "you are really Jewish" or "you are a FBI agent". Gardell also added that surprisingly often, the accusations turn out to be true...

And here we go again. For whatever reason, the Patriot Front is constantly accused of being "glowies" and "Feds" by other groups on the Alt Right. The first article linked below is parody, but does capture the sentiment.

I have about zero interest in the Patriot Front, but they certainly seem to act in very amateurish manner. From the SPLC´s article:

>>>Like other hate and extremist groups, the need to recruit and grow their members makes PF a target for antifascist activists who attempt to infiltrate white nationalist groups to expose and disrupt their activities. Since 2018, antifascist activists have infiltrated PF at least five times, which has led to journalist and activist networks obtaining thousands of documents, including internal chat logs, audio and video recordings, and photographs. The laxed operational security measures of PF that are responsible for these infiltrations led to the identification of more than 130 current and former members since 2019.

>>>PF keeps records of members’ exercise regiments, weight, meeting attendance, event participation, and logs when a member attends events with affiliated white nationalist groups, such as the National Justice Party. Leaders publicly and privately shame members who do not adhere to exercise routines, attend events, or do not purchase enough PF branded promotional material. According to leaked documents, members are expected to post of certain number of racist flyers and banners per months. Patriot Front members purchase PF branded flyers, stickers, and stencils from Rousseau at a premium.

>>>Despite efforts to conceal their identities, antifascists and researchers have identified approximately 120 individuals as former or current Patriot Front members, many of whom lost their jobs after their membership in an organized hate group was revealed.

>>>According to leaked private chat logs, phone calls and documents obtained by Unicorn Riot, Rousseau requires Patriot Front members to purchase branded stickers, stencils, patches and clothing items. Members are often directed to purchase clothing from an affiliated online store, Will2Rise.

Apparently, they even publicly disclose where the flyers have been passed out! Anyone with an IQ above 25 understands that a group of this type will be mapped and/or infiltrated. Even the fact that they (rather flamboyantly) mask up at marches really functions as an identifying marker.

Some far left groups and Black nationalists also act like this. Funny that it´s always the most extreme ones, the ones that openly tell the world about the need to form Baader Meinhof-type urban guerilla units! But sure, it doesn´t have to be a COINTELPRO operation, it could simply be a narcissistic leader who wants a picturesque personality cult around himself, with zero intention of actually making any "revolution". Which, I suppose, might be just as well...

No nukes are good nukes

I never heard this one before. The claim is that nuclear weapons aren´t real?! Apparently, this conspiracy theory became popular in the wake of the film "Oppenheimer". Now it´s going strong again, but strangely enough on pro-Russian accounts.

You would think that people who support Russia would claim that Evil Ivan *does* have access to nukes, but what do I know. Maybe their hypersonic missiles are fake, too?
