Footnote or paradigm shift?

Apparently, Tucker Carlson and MTG have officially left the Republican Party. Not sure what this means, but both are popular at least on-line. Tucker´s decision was apparently triggered by the GOP´s support for Israel. Not sure why MTG left now, but she has a long list of complaints against the Trump administration. As we know.

Night of the long knives

Donald Trump finally purges his "Strasserites". Apparently, the Great Leader went nuclear on Tucker Carlson, Alex Jones, Candace Owens and some other Alt Right influencers who oppose his war on Iran. If "MAGA" means something like "isolationist conservative populism with some QAnon fringes", then MAGA is now definitely over. At least as a Trump-centric movement broadly within the Republican Party.

However, I suspect The Young Turks (link above) are wrong when predicting that this will affect the midterms. No, it won´t. Most GOP voters - including those who support Trump - seem to back the Iran War. The Democrats might win, of course, but for other reasons, not because of a so-called "split in MAGA". At least not if MAGA is defined in the sense above. *That* MAGA is a small current.

That being said, US politics can take strange turns (cough cough), so predicting anything at this point might be a fool´s errand. But that´s my foolish two cents!

Wake up to politics

I´ve covered this before, but opinion polls supposedly suggest that most Trump/MAGA supporters are in favor of Operation Epic Fury. The number of MAGA Republicans who support the war is much larger than the number of non-MAGA Republicans who do so. This is true both in percentages and in absolute numbers. Only 3% of Republicans identify clearly as both MAGA and anti-war. From this, some gadflies conclude that there isn´t a "split in MAGA" over the Iran war. It´s all sound and (non-epic) fury from the legacy media, signifying nothing.

However, there seems to be a problem with the relevant polls.

Those who self-identify as MAGA usually take that to mean "100% support for Trump". The label is ideologically empty and is used to express extreme trust in the person of Donald J Trump. Those who oppose the Iran war will probably not identify as MAGA for that very reason. But this skews the result. If "MAGA" just means "I love Trump", then almost *by definition* MAGAs will be much less likely to oppose Trump´s policies on any issue.

The writer of the first article linked below believe that the midterm elections *will* cause trouble for Trump since many new Trump voters in 2024 were independents and are likely to switch their allegiance (many of these might be opposed to the war or dissatisifed for other reasons). However, he believes that this isn´t the same thing as a major split in MAGA, since the MAGAs who are "Trumpier than Trump" (Steven Bannon, Tucker Carlson, MTG) command very little support.

I can´t help wondering if political commentators are simply talking pass each other. They have different definitions of what "MAGA" is supposed to be. The ideologically orthodox populists may be a minuscule group and perhaps nobody outside their circles gives a damn about what Bannon is saying, but if a larger group of independents leave the "MAGA coalition" (in the broader sense), Trump is in trouble anyway! And that´s true even if this particular group is smaller than the MAGA cultists for whom Trump simply can do nothing wrong. Elections can be decided by a few swing voters...

Another interesting finding (second link) is that 26% of Republican voters believe that Trump started the Iran war to distract from the Epstein files, while a whopping 81% of Democrats think so.

Trump and the gay disco

This is making the obligatory rounds on the interwebs right now. Tucker´s comment was made before the US attack on Venezuela, however, and nobody seems to know his current position. Note that Tucker is implicitly accusing Trump of "defending the gay disco"!

Addendum.

I watched portions of Tucker´s interview with Mike Cernovich (available elsewhere on YouTube). It sounds as if Tucker is switching to "critical support" for Trump´s overthrow of Maduro. Is he afraid of losing his viewership? MAGA seems to be in complete ecstacy over Trump´s action...

Of course, Western Hemisphere hegemonism is perfectly compatible with breaking the transatlantic link and therefore play into the hands of Russia. And Tucker Carlson does say during his conversation with Cerno that Putin is "the most rational actor in the world today".

Still, I can´t help thinking that MAGA´s real gole is *global* domination, but an exclusively and recklessly American one, with no demanding European or Asian allies included. So where will Tucker´s (and Cerno´s) adaptation to the Trump Empire end?

Free speech test

Dare I link to far left gadfly Jimmy Dore promoting anti-Israeli conspiracy theories c/o far right gadflyette Candace Owens?

Charlie Kirk and TPUSA must have had *some* kind of fall out with American Jewish donors. Kirk refused to "cancel" Tucker Carlson and (surprise) Candace Owens. If that´s enough for Mossad to kill him is perhaps another thing entirely...

Make of this content whatever you wish.

Meet the god of Tucker Carlson

A propos some recent transmissions from that lovable Irish leprechaun Thomas Sheridan...

Sammanbrottet

Abiogenic and acerbic

Sabine Hossenfelder attacks both climate change deniers and activist climate scientists in this video. Meltdown in the commentary section in 10, 9, 8...

Apparently, far right commentator extraordinaire Tucker Carlson has rediscovered "the abiogenic petroleum theory" (or conspiracy theory), which probably isn´t true. And even if it would be true, extracting all that oil might still fuck up the climate.

On the other hand...Sabine Hossenfelder believes that the problem isn´t the use of fossil fuels per se, but rather the carbon dioxide being pumped into the atmosphere. Translation: if we could only find the technology to stop *that*, we might continue using fossil fuels. Not a popular message in some circles.

Ms Hossenfelder is good at triggering both sides in an infected conflict!

Old Order

An interesting "scholarly" YouTube video about the Old Order Amish. Probably triggered by the sudden upsurge in interest for the Amish after a notorious Tucker Carlson interview. Note the comments about "Amish" romance novels!

Gottes Wille

The article linked below is from 2005, but was recently referenced on X. Apparently, Tucker Carlson said something positive about the Amish on Joe Rogan Show recently, and now the knives are out...

From the article:

>>>But their children have medical conditions so rare, doctors don't have names for them yet, reports correspondent Vicki Mabrey. The Amish make up only about 10 percent of the population in Geagua County in Ohio, but they're half of the special needs cases. Three of the five Miller children, for example, have a mysterious crippling disease that has no name and no known cure.

>>>The three Byler sisters were all born with a condition that has no cure and mysteriously leads to severe mental retardation and a host of physical problems. Last year, doctors figured out the girls have the gene for something called Cohen Syndrome; there are only 100 known cases worldwide. Since then, more than a dozen other cases of Cohen's have been discovered in Ohio Amish country.

>>>But for so many years, the Amish have had no names for these disorders. It was simply a mystery why half the headstones in Amish cemeteries were headstones of children.

Genetic disorders hit Amish hard

I´ve been locked out of X for a couple of months (my fault), but I recently managed to log in again and guess what guyz...nothing much have changed.

The big things this week is the Ukraine aid package and Joe Rogan´s interview with Tucker Carlson, with the latter saying some really crazy shit about UFOs, creationism and the Amish.

But who knows, maybe Tucker is right about the UFOs!

Back to the future

Bing AI´s take on a Paranthropus wondering
where the heck his evolutionary cousins are at

Many Americans laugh at Putin for answering Tucker´s question about why Russia invaded Ukraine with a 30-minute history lesson spanning over 1000 years, beginning with early medieval Kievan Rus.

Are these the same Americans who obsess about Old Testament history, which deals with things that happened around 3000 years ago? You know, the same people who couldn´t care less about Ukraine, but strongly believes in supporting Israel? Not for geopolitical reasons, but because of some truly esoteric tribal conflict between the Judges and Edom.

But perhaps we are talking about two entirely different factions here? One that only cares about fast food and Coca Cola, and the other obsessing - not about their medieval European ancestors - but about the Iron Age ancestors of their Jewish and Arab neighbors...

Can anyone ever understand Amerika?

The Earth is flat, nuke Red China

Apparently, the US government will release its "final" report on the UFO phenomenon in June. Above is a link to a segment from Tucker Show on Fox News, discussing these supposed revelations.

I think it´s obvious from the take where this is going (if anywhere). "Massive intelligence failure". Yepp, the whole thing is a psy op on the public to justify more money to the US military so the "failure" won´t happen again. Stay tuned for more advanced missiles and drones!

Which may or may not be a good thing, depending on who you support in the coming war over Taiwanese microchip facilities. Still, it *is* intriguing that the US is still so socially backward and scientifically illiterate that the military has to feign belief in aliens from outer space in order to get the population on board...

Maybe next year, NASA will publish a report denouncing the moon landing as a hoax, while the US Geographical Survey will claim that the Earth is flat? Of course, the liberal Dems (not featured on Tucker) will have to continue their BS about no. 45 being a Russian "asset"...

Just telling the ordinary citizen that he can´t play games on his Android if Taiwan is lost won´t cut it, I suppose.
