Some cynical questions. If the pro-EU Moldovan administration fears Russian vote buying, why didn´t *they* make sure to buy the votes instead? If the old KGB tries to destabilize your nation, surely it´s gloves off?
But perhaps they *couldn´t* do it. Which raises another question: why has the EU (and EU membership) lost its allure to the impoverished East European masses? Why do so many Moldovans prefer Putin´s Russia (and Moscow gold) to some association treaty yada yada with Brussels?
Perhaps the hallowed European Union is doing something wrong? I mean, we can´t even rig a referendum in freakin´ *Moldova* for crying out loud...
Update. Just a few minutes ago, the media reported that the two sides were evenly tied, since the earlier projections didn´t factor in the capital. Still, half of the Moldovan vote still went Russia´s way. So my questions stand. I have spoken!
