It is said that in Kasi, even today, Vaarahi wanders in the night and it is not possible to see her directly and therefore, you are permitted to see her through the ceiling holes.
Being such a fierce murthy, it is important to know the right methods of worship from a learned Guru and follow them. If you are unaware and really want to, simply pay your respects every day and that will yield what you desire.
