I haven't ordered this book
(yet), but the idea behind it strikes me as great fun! Thomas Jefferson, the
Founding Father and third U.S. president, was a deist and actually published
his own version of the Gospels, often called “The Jefferson Bible”. It only
contains the “humanist” portions of Jesus' message and ministry. Whoever is behind
“The Reverse Jefferson Bible” has done…well, exactly the reverse. They have
published the four Gospels in their entirety, high-lighting the parts Jefferson
included in his “bible”, thereby giving the reader a chance to see exactly what
the president-deist *left out* (presumably, the more “divine” or supernatural
verses). By calling what is essentially another reprint of the Gospels “The
Reverse Jefferson Bible: What the president left out”, and putting Jefferson's
name on the cover, the Anonymous Ministry has sent atheist and deists into a
virtual frenzy, ha ha. Although I'm not one of the Lord's sheep at the present
time (more of a goat, I'm afraid), I will nevertheless reward this little prank
– or original attempt to evangelize the miniscule deistic community for whom
“The Life and Morals of Jesus” is holy writ – with FIVE STARS AND COUNTING.
