“Benedict Arnold: Triumph and
Treason” is a short and relatively straightforward documentary about the hero
of the American Revolutionary War who defected and joined the British. It
focuses on Arnold's childhood, early manhood and military exploits during the
Revolutionary War, both before and after his defection. It says relatively
little about his later life, which seems to have been equally eventful. I'm no
expert on Arnold, but a quick search on the web reveals that some of the
memorable moments recounted in “Triumph and Treason” may be apocryphal, such as
Arnold's supposed request to be buried in his old American uniform. The
American Indian prophecy about the eventual fate of “the dark eagle” Arnold
also sounds apocryphal, unless you believe in Native powers of prophecy! The
documentary is introduced and (I suppose) narrated by actor Peter Graves. All
in all, a good intro to the subject, and worth the OK rating.
