KJV is King
Or maybe not....
Some material on the current known as "KJV Only-ism". The King James Bible is "divinely inspired", und so weiter.
Off topic. De lyckas undvika frågan om anklagelserna om valfusk. Jag väntar med spänning på att de ska stöda Trump även i den frågan. https://themilitant.com/2022/11/12/democrats-attacks-on-rights-at-heart-of-us-class-struggle/
Jag undrar varför de försöker förmedla sig till trumpisterna. Så vitt jag har förstått tröttnade en stor del av den vita arbetarklassen på Trump 2020 och röstade på Biden istället. Såvida de inte tror att det demokratiska partiet faktiskt hotar de demokratiska rättigheterna i USA, men det verkar också märkligt - borde inte en radikal vänstergrupp åtminstone attackera *både* demokraterna och republikanerna? Och så deras agerande som "vänster"alibi åt Högsta Domstolens upphävande av Roe v Wade...
SWP har länge haft en underlig syn på dessa punkter. De ansåg år 2000 att det var demokraterna, inte republikanerna, som försökte stjäla valet via Högsta Domstolen. Och när jag redan innan dess frågade om SWP var för proportionella val i USA (som ju är mer demokratiska) var svaret "nej", men de kunde inte riktigt förklara varför...
Back on the KJV Onlyism (not to minimize the value of the SWP) Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Sounds like more of *culture wars* to me, if it was good enough for grandpa it's good enough for me, kind of behavior. (And then on to burn all other translations!) Now I want to read the NRSV version to get the modern updates. That no Pauline texts are available before the 9th century says a lot about who and what *he* was. Sure wanted to put women in their place too!
KJV Onlyism must be a weird traditional reaction, since the same theology is surely possible on the basis of, say, the NIV. It´s ironic that American evangelicals promote a slightly truncated version of a Bible commissioned by an autocratic British king who opposed freedom of worship! Was probably a Freemason, too. Maybe it´s the only tradition American Baptists have? Not like Anglicans or Catholics!
