Salad dressing

I always assumed that Rhode Island salad dressing actually came from Rhode Island. Or at the very least, I didn´t think about it. At all.

It recently (as in one hour ago) came to my attention that Rhode Island dressing is...Swedish! It was invented by the "legendary cook" Tore Wretman, and the Swedish word "rhode island-sås" was first used in 1960.

Oh.

  1. I have never heard of it either, although I've never been to Sweden...
Why this recipe is called "Rhodes Island" I'll also never know. Easy to make at home...

  2. One speculation is that Wretman was inspired by the name of another salad dressing, Thousand Island, named after the Thousand Islands in the St Lawrence river. Not sure where *that* name, comes from, though!
