Does the Fourth International (FI) support al-Qaeda? Somehow, I doubt it. Yet, the article linked below was published in their magazine "International Viewpoint". It originally appeared in "L´Anticapitaliste", the publication of the NPA, the FI´s famed French section.
The article argues that Israel conspires with Somaliland to expel the entire population of Gaza to that particular country. No source is given for this truly remarkable statement. A conspiracy theory? Then, the piece expresses tacit support for Al-Shabab. Ahem, that´s an al-Qaeda ally...
How confused is the far left *exactly*? Here are two representative quotes.
>>>Beyond the upheaval of the regional order, this recognition opens a breach allowing for the expulsion of Palestinians, as acceptance of this population transfer seems to have been a condition for the recognition of the state.
>>>In their imperial symbiosis, Israeli and American leaders have been searching for several months for a territory capable of accommodating a significant portion of the Palestinian people in order to bring the Palestinian question to a definitive close.
>>>The recognition of Somaliland, coupled with promises of financial transfers, could encourage independence activists to accept this colonial project, although Al-Shabab militiamen are reminding them of the importance of preserving national unity and the duty of loyalty to the Palestinian community.
I can´t let this go. So the Fourth Interational calls Islamist terrorists "militiamen" and believe they should impose "Somali national unity" while showing loyalty to a foreign nation (the Palestinians)...or is it loyalty to Hamas, rather? Nor are Somaliland "independence activists", its a fully functioning breakaway republic which has existed for over 30 years! Somaliland broke away when the then-government of Somalia started a genocidal war against their population...so much for Somali national unity. But some genocides are apparently met with a shrug from those performing their "duty of loyalty to the Palestinian community" yada yada.
ReplyDeleteI´m old enough to remember when the NPA was hailed as some kind of extremely important political breakthrough on the French left we all should pay attention to. Ahem, why would I want to pay attention to the latest little intrigue of the perennially split-and-fusion-and-split-again French (far) left? Unsurprisingly, the NPA soon...I don´t know...split or something. More than once, actually.
